The quilting method of Trapunto was founded in Italy in the 14th century, and offered a design stitched into a quilting whereas cotton stuffing was pushed into the stitched edges to raise them up and make the piece of fabric appear 3 dimensional. Most often appearing on quilts of that time, over the centuries this technique was used on fabric prints and then framed to make unique art. This lovely pieces is well-made and the 2 horses are stuffed as well as the double gate posts and red-roofed barn and tree at the bottom. Simple gold frame and tooth hanger on back, excellent condition, no marks or stamps, c1970s. Measures 19 ½ inches x 11 ½ inches.
