Description
Once called the poor man’s porcelain, Chalkware is a molded collectible ceramic likened to plaster. Usually decorated with watercolor pigment and other types of paint, chalkware was largely produced in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Found at carnivals and fairs, this chalkware horse may have been a prize for some lucky carny-game winner, or a collectible bought in a street fair. Lovely black glossy finish with grey mane and tale, there are 2 small hooks on the back for wall mounting, no marks or stamps, very good condition with just a few areas where the paint has chipped particularly on the edge of the front legs and around the edge of the muzzle. C1950s, measures 17 inches long x 12 inches tall x 1
