An equestrian romance set in Virginia hunting country runs through several hunts: for the fox, for true love, and for the healthy maintenance of both tradition and progress. The heroine of the story, Cintra Shelbourne of Shelbourne Hall, has helped her architect father with the stable end of his business, caring for the horses and looking after the guests who come to hunt- in particular the Bakers and Gary Townsend from New York. Though Gary has courted Sheila Baker, romance flares between him and Cintra despite the intentions of young Burke Montgomery who lives nearby. A season of hunting with good horses and people in the lead straightens out misunderstandings- and the jumps are easily taken on a course that ends with Cintra and Burke paired off for a “”stable”” future.
