Description

This First Edition Book by the Junor Literary Guild tells the tale of young 12-year-old Ban-Joe who earns his dream job of taking care of the great Thoroughbred Grey Eagle and riding him in the famous 1839 match race against Wagner. A historical book about the early days of Thoroughbred racing and the infamous race between these two horses -Grey Eagle was Kentucky-bred and Wagner was Virgina-bred; and Wagner was ridden by a slave boy named Cato who was racing for his freedom…very compelling and well written. Hardcover with 229 pages, illustrated by Corinne Boyd Dillon and published by Franklin Watts Inc, New York. Very good condition with the following notes: This is a retired library book and there are stamps on the inside front cover and title page; the original dust cover is missing. Interior pages are in excellent condition.
